TSSU Strike Update – September 3, 2015
The Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU), which represents teaching assistants, sessional instructors and others, has announced its intention to take strike action beginning next Tuesday, September 8th and continuing Wednesday,September 9th. The TSSU and the University are in mediation this week, but if that process fails to achieve a collective agreement it is expected that parts of the Burnaby campus may be affected by picket lines next week.
The TSSU has indicated that its picket lines will target specific areas as follows:
Tuesday, September 8th – the Applied Science Building as early as 7:30am.
Wednesday, September 9th – the Academic Quadrangle beginning at 4:30pm.
SFUFA members teaching in the above areas at the affected times, or members intending to attend the University’s 50th Anniversary celebration on September 9th, might expect to be impacted by strike activity.
SFUFA is not a party to this labour dispute. All SFUFA members have the right, as a matter of conscience, to decide whether or not to cross picket lines. A guide to faculty rights and responsibilities in the event of job action is available on the SFUFA website at https://sfufa.wpengine.com/agreements-and-policies/quick-answers/info-on-sfu-strike-policies/
We would encourage you familiarize yourself with it, and please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
