2015-16 Executive – Call for Nominations

The Faculty Association is actively seeking nominations for the 2015-2016 SFUFA Executive Committee. Terms begin on September 1, 2015. As a member-driven and volunteer-led organization, we depend on you and your colleagues to lead the organization and identify its priorities.

SFUFA serves as bargaining agent for faculty and librarians at SFU, but its work goes much further, including day to day advising and representation of members, regular and ongoing consultation with the University administration, and working in partnership with other faculty associations across the province and across the country. In pursuing its work, the organization is guided by the mandate identified in its constitution:

– To assert the integrity of the academic profession;
– To defend academic freedom in teaching and research;
– To promote the welfare of all faculty members and librarians;
– To foster high standards of excellence in teaching and scholarship;
– To act as the sole bargaining agent of all faculty members employed by Simon Fraser University;
– To regulate relations between faculty members and the university through collective bargaining.

Members of the Faculty Association Executive attend two meetings per month, both of which occur on Thursday mornings, usually beginning at 9:30 and running to noon (a few meetings per year may be scheduled for 10:15 to 1:00 pm with lunch included.) Each month, one of those meetings includes a consultation with SFU’s senior administration. Further involvement is voluntary and dependent on an individual’s interests and availability. All service for SFUFA is considered University service for the purposes of salary review, tenure and promotion.

The SFUFA Executive Committee is made up of a President, President Elect, and eight Directors, together with the immediate Past-President. Of the eight Directors, at least one must be a Librarian/Archivist and at least one must be a Teaching Appointment.

We are actively seeking nominations for the following positions:

1 President Elect for a three-year term (one year as President Elect, one year as President, and one year as Past President);

2 Directors, each for a two-year term

1 Librarian/ Archivist representative, for a two-year term
1 Teaching Appointments representative, for a two-year term

SFUFA encourages all members to consider joining the Executive Committee to help to shape the Faculty Association and set its priorities for the coming year, and welcomes in particular nominations from members of equity-seeking groups.

If you are willing to put forward your name, PLEASE COMPLETE THE ATTACHED NOMINATION FORM AND RETURN IT TO THE SFUFA OFFICE (AQ 2035) NO LATER THAN NOON, FRIDAY, MARCH 27th, 2015. As per SFUFA Bylaws, each candidate must be nominated by at least six (6) SFUFA members.

Voting will take place from Monday, April 6th to Monday, April 20th, and results will be announced at the SFUFA AGM on April 21st, 2015.
