Faculty members at the University of Victoria have voted in favour of becoming certifiedĀ as a union.Of the 711 votes cast, 448 members — or 63 per cent –voted in favour of certification. They’re expecting to be officially certified within the next few weeks.

“We are our own union, so, as we said from the beginning, it’s gonna be the same people doing the same work, but this time with enhanced legal rights. What we’re hoping is with this new engagement that we’ve had with our membership that we will increase activity and engagement and participation by our members.”

U-Vic faculty association vice-president Dr. Jason Price was speaking with Terry Moore on CFAX this afternoon.

The SFU Faculty Association is a member-driven professional association and collective bargaining agent for faculty, librarians and other academic staff at the three campuses of Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Surrey and Vancouver B.C.
